CaBi Hack Night

Mobility Lab, 1501 Wilson Blvd., Suite 1100, Arlington

Capital Bikeshare isn’t just a transit system: It’s a data repository, too. Trip data gleaned from Bikeshare usage can be used to figure out where people are riding those big, red bikes – how far they travel, when they travel, and the level of activity Bikeshare stations experience. Tonight, local programmers (self-described “CaBi fanatics”) will talk about the cool stuff they’ve done with Bikeshare’s publicly available data, much of which—like this trip timer—goes beyond the typical code-nerdery to paint a geographic portrait of mobility throughout D.C., Arlington and Montgomery County.

NOFX and Off With Their Heads

The Fillmore, 8656 Colesville Road, Silver Spring

California punks NOFX have been careening around for over two decades, playing frenzied, snot-nosed, pop-sensible ditties. At The Fillmore, NOFX will play the hits: Expect to hear classics The Decline and Punk in Drublic in their entirety. Opener Off With Their Heads will most certainly echo NOFX’s high-intensity sing-a-longs. $26.

Grump Shop

Artisphere, 1101 Wilson Blvd., Arlington

As of today, there’s only 18 days left until Christmas! Grump Shop is one of numerous holiday markets in and around D.C., but it’s worth the trip over the Key Bridge. Last year, over 1,000 shoppers filled up Artisphere’s haptic, well-designed interior (pro-tip: make your way to the bar for some liquid courage in the crowd). This year, over 40 mostly local vendors will show off their wares – clothing, candles, stationery, jewelry, maple syrup and and tiny pig figurines with mustaches are among the many tchotchkes on offer (see a full list here).
