4”x6” East Coast Rock & Roll Photography Reception

Gypsy Sally’s, 3401 K St. NW

Govinda Gallery has wormed its way into our hearts with their keen eye for moody, motion-packed, blank and white rock n' roll photography – and their latest show is no exception. This reception showcases the best four-by-six inch snaps that the mid-Atlantic has to offer. Naturally, there will be tunesmiths too. Collapser, Boardroom Heroes, and the Sniffs (all subjects of the artists’ work) will perform. Expect growly punk rock with pop sensibilities. The exhibit will be on display until January 4th, but why wait? Tonight's reception is free.

Our Suburb

620 T St. NW, DC

Our Suburb takes its cues from—you guessed it— Our Town. The setting, suburban Skokie, Illinois, is a slightly enlarged, more densely populated version of Thornton Wilder’s Grover’s Corners. The year? 1977 – the year Nazis threatened to march on the midwestern hamlet. An interfaith romance springs up in between preparations for Christmas and Hanukkah, complicating things for the whole of Skokie. Our Suburb runs through January 12. Take a peak at the show's calendar for ticket pricing.

Foozle Tape Release & Future Times Holiday Party

The Pinch, 3548 14th St. NW
U Street Music Hall, 1115 U St. NW

This local-music double-header will keep you going all night. Start off at the Pinch, where straightforward Baltimore rockers Foozle will celebrate the release of their tape. (Yes, indeed, cassette tapes have become so re-legitimized that their recordings merit release parties.) DC’s Sea Life and acoustic pop act Art Sorority for Girls will support. Afterward, stroll a southward to U Street Music Hall for the Future Times Holiday Party, where things will get more sonically spacey – electronic acts Bookworms, Protect-U and Beautiful Swimmers will bring deeply layered synth-y delirium to the basement space until last call.

1115 U St. NW

Return to U Street Music Hall this evening for the considerably chiller Glide, DC’s longstanding New Age DJ night. Remember – Christmas is in three days – so it's best to get in some meditation before we attempt to wrangle our holiday travel plans and family drama into submission. As always, bring a yoga mat or blanket to expedite the process of relaxation.
