This is your opportunity to build a fort in the National Building Museum’s Great Hall---and maybe get some networking in, too. The museum’s Keystone Society, structured for emerging professionals, will host Fort Night, which is exactly what it sounds like: attendees will get cardboard for fort construction and, after a brief introduction to the best possible fort-building techniques, can get to work. The true test of your fort’s mettle (or your structural engineering skills) will be a foam ball battle. Snacks and drinks are included with tickets.

Bad Friend Records' Second Anniversary Showcase

For the past two years, DC-based Bad Friend Records has been releasing some of our favorite thoughtful, pop-sensible tunes. Brendan Polmer and Ryan Little, the rag-tag duo that founded Bad Friend, are also the duo behind its predominate act, Tereu Tereu, which has created sonically lush, technically tight pop songs. Their 2013 full-length, Quadrants, is listenable and smart. Tonight, see Tereu Tereu with labelmates Drunken Sufis and Raw Feels on Black Cat’s main stage. (Don’t be a bad friend.)

Glassheart updates the well-trodden tale of Beauty and the beast for urbane audiences: That girl never showed up, and the beast is holed up in a low-rent apartment (at least it’s proximate to a 7-11). Other familiar fairytale tropes emerge as a building manager who snacks on children, a “relentlessly cheery” lamp, and -yes - a maiden. Today’s matinee show is pay-what-you-can.

Return to Atlas Performing Arts Center for Oneohtrix Point Never’s buzzy glitchiness. Daniel Lopatin is the man behind the critically acclaimed work of Oneohtrix Point Never, which tends to reinvent itself with each new release---2013’s R Plus Seven echoes 2011’s Replica (which was crafted around television commercials) in that both fit squarely into the alternative electronica genre. But the similarities end there. Lopatin has been praised for his consistently excellent work and has been lauded for composing accessible, yet emotionally triggering, albums and remixes.
