Artists on the Line: A Conversation About Art, Activism, and the Keystone XL Pipeline

The Corcoran, 500 17th St. NW

To coincide with Mia Feuer’s An Unkindness, currently on view at the Corcoran, the museum is running this panel, during which a number of creative types will ruminate on the social, environmental, and political relevance—and costs— about the Keystone XL pipeline as represented in Feuer’s art. Filmmaker and creator of documentary-game Fort McMoney David Dufresne; Canadian activist, artist, and author Franke James; Washington Post energy reporter Steven Mufson; and Feuer will be moderated by, oddly enough, editor-in-chief of DC Modern Luxury Magazine Michael McCarthy.

Pissed Jeans, Purling Hiss, and Priests at Black Cat

BlackCat, 1811 14th St. NW

Doomy Philly punks Pissed Jeans toured on their explosive 2013 album TK early last year. Maybe you got sweaty at Black Cat then, or maybe you want to scream to the kinda-sludgy “Cathouse” again—either way, catch Pissed Jeans with the slightly dreamier, dronier Purling Hiss and local surf-rock screamers Priests.

Holy Ghost! DJ Set

U Street Music Hall, 1115 U St. NW

Brooklyn-based synth-pop duo Holy Ghost! was minted early on in its career: Its debut album was produced by alt-dancey standard bearers James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem’s and Tim Goldsworthy of DFA. Nick Millheiser and Alex Frankel won’t perform their original tracks tonight, but there’s no doubt they’ll play the hits: The two have remixed populist hits by Moby, Cut Copy, Phoenix and MGMT.

MIDNIGHT: A 75th Anniversary Screening

AFI Silver Theater, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring

AFI’s repertory screenings go all mushy from now through March, what with Valentine’s Day and all. This afternoon, catch a matinee of Midnight, about an American showgirl, broke in Paris, who aims to snag herself a man with money. It’s Midnight’s 75th anniversary. What better occasion to pre-game V-Day than with this classic tale of bait-and-switch?
